Scanning Artwork for Logo Mat Visual Requests

(1) Obtaining the Artwork...
Use the best possible artwork sample you can find. A business card or letterhead will be ideal.
Use only artwork that has not been written on, damaged or distorted in any way.

(2) Setting up the Scanner...
If given the option: set to ‘Colour Photo’
Otherwise, locate the scan preferences and set to...
Scan Full size / 1:1
True Colour / 24 bit
150 Dpi

Some artwork may be too small for these settings to pick up enough detail, for these we will have to change a few settings until the results are more clear.

You may want to change (Scan Full size / 1:1) to (Scan X2 / 2:1) or more.
Colour mode should remain True Colour / 24 bit.
Increasing dpi can also improve quality.

(3) Scanning.
First you will need to do a 'preview scan'. Most Scanners have this basic function.
There is no point scanninig an entire letterhead, when all that is required is a couple of cm's at the top where the logo is.
Select the required area from your preview scan, allowing a little extra space around the image.
Check also the scan is Straight, then activate the main scan.

TIP: Preview the scan as many times as you like until it is correct.

TIP: If you are in any doubt over the quality of your scan, simply print it off and compare it with your original Artwork. If you can see the quality has deteriorated then a re-scan will be necessary.

TIP: Always save your scan to a folder which you can easily locate and always give your scan a unique name.
